Are you about to open your first salon and want to make sure you haven’t overlooked anything when fitting out your premises?
MySalondeCoiffure, Europe’s leading specialist in hairdressing furniture, invites you to discover its advice, as well as its list of essential equipment for a men’s hairdressing salon: furniture, accessories, hairdressing products…

The importance of properly equipping a men’s salon
Opening a business – and particularly a hairdressing salon – is a long-term undertaking that requires a great deal of groundwork (market research, drawing up a budget, administrative procedures, finding premises…) and significant fitting-out work.
But once the plumbing and electrical work have been installed and the flooring and paint colours chosen, the premises still need to be fitted out. This is an essential step in creating a pleasant atmosphere and, quite simply, ensuring customers are welcomed in the best possible conditions.
Men’s hairdressing salons, moreover, present a special case since, unlike unisex salons, they generally offer barber services in addition to haircuts. This service requires the use of specific equipment, particularly in terms of furniture.
It is also worth noting that men visiting a salon specifically designed for them also want to treat themselves to a moment of relaxation and will be particularly sensitive to the décor of the premises. Barbershops that create a vintage atmosphere are therefore hugely successful, as customers feel as though they are treating themselves to a moment out of time and stepping into the shoes of dandies.
The essential hairdressing furniture for opening a barber shop
The two essential items for a barber shop are:
- the barber’s chair (fitted with an adjustable headrest, a gas spring to adjust the seat’s angle, a hydraulic pump for height adjustment and a footrest)
- a dedicated styling station, fitted with a washbasin
The barber’s chair differs from a traditional hairdressing chair not only in its vintage-inspired design but also in the features mentioned above. These features will provide real comfort for customers, whilst allowing you to work with true precision.
If you also offer a haircut service, you might be tempted to purchase a standard, less expensive hairdressing unit. However, a model specifically designed for trimming and grooming beards and moustaches is highly practical, as it is fitted with a sink and tap.
For the barbering area, the essential barbering furniture is broadly the same as for a unisex hairdressing salon:
- reception counter
- shampoo basins (or an adaptable basin that can be fitted to the barber’s chair)
- shelves or display units for your products (in some cases, these can be built into the styling station)
- cloakroom
- hairdressing stool
- waiting chairs
- storage unit(s) on castors if required
You’ll find all these different product categories in our online shop, including around ten models of retro barber’s chairs.

Essential small equipment for a hairdresser/barber
Once the furniture has been sorted, you’ll still need to order a long list of barbering equipment.
These include, amongst others:
- barber’s scissors (two specific types: a large pair with double-edged blades for haircuts, and a smaller pair for beards and moustaches)
- a barber’s razor (with a swivel handle and interchangeable blade)
- haemostatic sticks
- barber’s shaving brushes
- shaving bowls
- a strop or whetstone with their care products
- hairbrushes and beard and moustache brushes
- hairdryers
- professional clippers
- linen: fabric capes for customers, barber’s aprons, towels…
- beard and hair care products: shampoos and conditioners, oils, aftershave balms, clear wax…
These various accessories make up the essential equipment needed to open a barber’s shop. Depending on your preferences, you could also add a barber’s sign or banners featuring photos of haircuts…
