When it comes to hairdressing salon design, there are no hard and fast rules. Salons face a variety of circumstances in terms of clientele, space and budget… Nevertheless, it is possible to identify a few key trends that may help you when furnishing your hairdressing salon.

Design your hairdressing salon from A to Z..jpg

When setting up your hairdressing salon, sooner or later you’ll need to consider the décor and the style you want to emphasise. There are

Of course, there are almost as many styles as there are salons! But to help you decide, it’s worth knowing the current trends. One of the founders of MySalon gives you the lowdown.

Natural looks: the big trend right now

It’s no secret that natural is the trend. ‘Green’ is all the rage. This applies to many economic sectors as varied as food and kitchen design. Hairdressing salons are no exception to the rule. Increasingly, their managers are asking us for furniture and colour schemes that evoke nature.

This works out rather well, as we offer a wide range of customisable fittings, particularly in terms of colour. Several of our chairs and wash units, for example, can be ordered in a wood-effect finish. Furthermore, when we fit out an entire salon for a client, our interior designers can advise on the colours of the walls and flooring to give them a ‘natural’ feel.

These are two very broad trends that encompass a variety of styles. Some hairdressers ask us to design a cosy salon: they want warm, vibrant colours and wood or bamboo-style tones. Conversely, other salon owners prefer a more contemporary setting: this is often characterised by understated, stark colours such as white or lacquered black. The overall look is therefore very minimalist.

It’s worth asking yourself which direction you’d like to go in. My Salon can meet your needs thanks to its extensive catalogue. Reception desks are an excellent example: some are simple and cosy (the Arabic or Nudo models), whilst others have a much more modern look (the Smile model).

Fashions go out of fashion… and come back into fashion

Another thing to bear in mind: it’s rarely a good idea to write off a trend for good. It may well make a comeback. This is the case, for example, with barbershops. They had almost completely disappeared about fifteen years ago… and today, they’re making a strong comeback. We’re currently selling barber’s chairs quite frequently: this is a sign that trends are cyclical, and that it’s worth keeping an eye on what worked well in the past.

Prioritise care and comfort

Of course, it’s not a requirement for everyone to invest in massage wash basins or those fitted with an electric leg rest… but it’s still worth noting that these facilities are becoming increasingly popular with customers. In any case, it is now essential to consider not only the welcome you provide, but also the care and comfort of your customers. Forget once and for all about any washing basins that ‘cut into’ your customers’ necks and opt for reclining basins instead!

Nothing is off-limits when it comes to décor…

We sometimes have preconceived notions about the world of hairdressing. For example, it’s often thought that rural salons, given their clientele, should opt for understated, traditional décor, whilst those in towns and cities can afford to use more modern colour schemes. Stop right there! A salon with a contemporary design can certainly find its audience in a rural area, and conversely, a traditional salon in the town centre can work just as well. Don’t hold back: just listen to what your clients are telling you. At the end of the day, they’re always right.
